FAQ

Q1: How often are recommendations updated?

Every 12–24 hours (configurable based on deployment).

Q2: Are savings guaranteed?

No. Savings are calculated based on past usage and estimated provider costs.

Q3: Should the Management VM always remain ON? Will we face any data loss if it’s turned off?

A. Configurable Parameters Related to Data Retention and Availability

The following parameters in CostSense control how data is stored and retained:

  • agent.prometheus-storage → Defines the local Prometheus storage capacity on each Agent.
  • agent.prometheus-retention → Specifies how long metrics are retained locally before deletion.
  • manager-stale → Determines how long the Manager retains data before marking it as stale.

These settings control overall data retention duration and storage utilization.

The Management VM should remain powered ON to ensure continuous data collection and ingestion.
If it is turned off:

  • Data ingestion pauses temporarily.
  • When the VM restarts, it will automatically backfill missing data from connected Agents — provided that:
    • The Agent's local storage has sufficient capacity.
    • The configured retention period has not expired.

If retention has expired or local agent storage was full during downtime, some data loss may occur.
